About This Project
Beyond the Derech began as an honest exploration of what the Torah, Talmud, and halachic codes actually say about the topics that affect our daily lives.
This site serves two purposes. First, it presents the actual texts and sources—not the sanitized versions taught in yeshiva, but what the books really say about sex, women's rights, non-Jews, slavery, and more. Every claim is linked to its source so you can verify it yourself.
Second, and more importantly, it's a guide for life after. Leaving Orthodox Judaism means losing your community, your social network, your identity framework—sometimes even your family. This site is here to help you navigate that transition with resources, community connections, and the reassurance that you are not alone.
Dedication
This work is dedicated to Maharajji Neem Karoli Baba, who taught that the best form of worship is love and the best way to serve God is to serve people.
Who Is This For?
- → People who have already left Orthodox Judaism and want to understand the texts they left behind
- → People who are questioning and need honest information
- → People who are in the process of leaving and need practical resources
- → Anyone who wants to understand what Orthodox Judaism actually teaches
- → Friends and family of those who have left, seeking understanding
A Note on Sources
Every source referenced on this site can be verified through Sefaria.org, the free online library of Jewish texts. We encourage you to look things up yourself. The goal is not to tell you what to think, but to give you the information to think for yourself.
